Our love for Balayage runs deep and by all of our client’s accounts, worth the money. This hair-coloring technique has been a game-changer in the industry that flipped the color game on its head. If you’re looking for a dreamy, kissed-by-the-sun look, Balayage will be just the right fit. In essence, Balayage is a French word that means to paint or sweep. The hair is highlighted in such a way to create a natural-looking and graduated effect. During the Balayage process, your hair becomes a literal canvas. By working the streaks of color into your hair with handheld precision, instead of separate individual sections or a foil technique, it creates an intense and modern look. The coloring technique of Balayage frames the face so that all of your contours will be emphasized and highlighted. Light and dark nuances in the hair can emphasize cheekbones, your eyes, and can create a ‘narrowing’ effect of the face.
We think that there are very few reasons to not get a Balayage treatment.
Balayage Vs. Highlights
Highlights, Balayage, ombre, and sombre oh my! With all of the different highlighting techniques available on the market today, it can become a bit confusing when figuring out which technique is right for you. We’ll take a look at two of the most popular techniques: highlights and Balayage.
Highlights are not simply blond streaks of hair running through a darker base color; rather, they are small sections of hair that are lighter than the base color. The intensity of the highlight is up to you and also depends on the base color of your hair. The process of highlighting is performed with various aluminum foils and is applied in small sections from the root to the tips. Ask your stylist for various styling options regarding highlights (because there are many).
Balayage is a technique where dye is painted or swept in a freehand manner onto sections of the hair. A prominent feature of this type of highlighting technique is that it is styled in revolutions around the head. Generally, the dye is applied to the bottom most section, then the midsection, then worked up to the top section of the hair.
Basically, highlights follow a more structured pattern and can produce more intensely lightened sections of hair. Balayage highlights as well, but with less intensity to add depth and dimension. Balayage also focuses on framing the face and emphasizing the base color of your tresses.
